Cornwall: North Coast Surf Workshop | 21st-22nd September 2019

Cornwall: North Coast Surf Workshop | 21st-22nd September 2019

A surf photography workshop where we will explore the best locations on the North cornish coastline over 2 days.

We are spoilt for choice as photographers in Cornwall with multiple shoot locations, surf beaches, fishing ports, lighthouses, waterfalls and lakes, all spaced neatly together.

Surf photography is arguably what I’m most known for, its where it all began and is very much still an ongoing daily passion of mine. I want to share the way I approach surf photography on this course, I’m not always looking for the classic surf shot, for me it’s more about capturing the storytelling aspect of the surf community.

During the workshop we’ll begin shooting at first light over the dunes at Holywell Bay before moving onto Crantock and concluding day one with a Fistral beach sunset. Day two we’ll begin with the Newquay town beaches before moving onto Watergate Bay, Mawgan Porth and concluding the workshop at Constantine Beach.

Group size limited to four including myself.

Once you have purchased the workshop I will invite you to a private Facebook group, specifically for the members of this workshop.

We will meet at the National Trust car park in Holywell Bay at 6.00am for an early morning hike over the dunes in time to catch the sun rise and shoot the surf at Holywell Bay. From here we will make the short journey by car to Crantock Beach where we have plenty of opportunities to photograph the surf and the surfing community in a variety of styles. We’ll break off for a late pub lunch before heading to Fistral Beach and setting up camp to capture the sunset.

Another early start for day two! We’ll meet at the Newquay long stay car park at 6.00am and proceed to walk to our first location of Newquay Harbour where we’ll aim to photograph the surf from here all the way along to Lusty Glaze Beach, a possible total of four surfing beaches, all picking up different waves allowing us a range of opportunities to shoot. We’ll stop for lunch at one of the beach cafes before driving to Watergate Bay and Mawgan Porth. This will take us up to late afternoon where we can grab a snack and head to Constantine Beach to conclude the workshop with a glorious sunset over the surf.

The workshop will conclude late evening.

By keeping the group size down to four, it means we can focus on the tuition and bounce off each other, additionally I can cover the transport to and from our photography locations.

Once you have purchased the workshop I will invite you to a private Facebook group, specifically for the members of this workshop so we can keep in touch and make further plans during the two days.

There will definitely be walking on coastal paths and the likelihood of it being muddy and windy is high, but we will not walk more than 45mins in a single stretch, plus there is plenty of opportunity to stop and catch a breather or/and nail that shot.

If you have any questions please email me and I will try and answer them.
